Miles, with his usual flair. Amazon Music Stream millions of songs. I love that they’re so major in Miles’ overall development and story arc and not just throwaways. Do the Cetagandans ever get nailed for their mendacity and lose their “good prison” status?
This is also a crucial story in the larger Miles Vorkosigan Saga as it has major repercussions for the successive novel in the series, Brothers in Arms. The first story is a whodunit, that I reviewed separately. Miles seems to be taking a page out of the James Bond rulebook and having a different love interest in each book or story.
I have complicated feelings about Miles and his disability because he’s disabled, but he’s also privileged. Miles might be his father’s son, but he gets his genius from his mother’s genetic material: Almost immediately his physical handicaps draw the wrong attention and he seems to get more bones broken in this one story than any human being could possibly endure, yet managed by quick wits alone to unite various prisoner factions into trying to stage a rebellion.

To say much about it is probably to give away too much. However, bujild this case, since these are part of the Miles Vorkosigan saga and we’re all familiar with him, his background, and his environment by nowI loved them.
He could choose not to do things that might lead to injury, like running an obstacle course or getting into a physical altercation, but Miles does choose those things. It’s a fiendishly ingenious camp, one which complies with the letter of galactic rules for how POWs must be held, but definitely not with bjjold spirit.

Miles rounded up Tris and Oliver, explaining to them that he byjold the troops rescued to become the core of the new Marilac resistance, and sent them to facilitate unloading onto the freighters in orbit. It became one of my favorites almost immediately.

A great collection of Vorkosigan novellas that follow Miles in a few shorter adventures. It’s not meant as a compliment. See all reviews. You don’t have to know anything much about Miles’s past to make sense of this present and there are only a few oblique references to external events, the missing of which wouldn’t diminish the story, in my opinion.
I have been slow to take to this series but it seems like with this book I have finally seen Miles Vorkosigan. However, it’s always a pleasure to read about Miles’ ever-triumphant cunning and audacity.
